Attempts to resolve the Quandary:

Kumar knew Kavya never really got over him but he was shocked by how fractious her letter to Katie was: "You, a drag-queen with grommets for earrings, even with your thaumaturgy, will never 'get' his theology, and, in time, he will learn you are not just a locum for me but also a locust in his life". (by QuaQua)

Father Theodor was locum for Sister Mary Katherine during this particular rehearsal when he became quite fractious as a result of several of the grommets, used to raise the banner depicting the thaumaturgy of the Holey Trinity, coming loose and falling upon him in what he perceived as a sign from God that he should have nothing to do with the third grade class. After Monsignor O'Reiley's fractious behavior caused the parishioners to have him transferred, the diocesan powers-that-be sent as a locum Father Jimmy, a veritable grommet of a priest who maintained, as a recent seminary graduate, a naive belief in the thaumaturgical mysteries of the faith that both fascinated the younger members of the congregation and annoyed the older ones. Struggling to pitch their tent in the fractious weather conditions of Mount Washington, their fingers so numb they could barely thread the ties through the grommets, the novice hikers wished Indiana Jones had been there to work his thaumaturgy, but an Eagle Scout who crossed their path proved an excellent locum. While certainly giving small metal eyelets their due, let us never forget "The Wrong Trousers", wherein the penguin, acting as a sinister locum tenens for faithful canine Gromit, lures the innocent and unsuspecting thaumaturge Wallace into the robot trousers, which are a trifle difficult to manipulate at the best of times, but downright fractious when worn by a sleeping human and remote-controlled by a penguin wearing a rubber glove on his head. When the locum (a reputed thaumaturge) arrived he took one look at young Hannibal, and in an instant stilled the fractious child simply by tensioning a cord fed through a grommet on the restraint mask. (by Et Seqq)
