Ah yes, it was there in Vladivostok that I came upon an elderly but still sinewy starets imparting spiritual enlightenment before a rabble of rather obstreperous young novitiates - and advising them by means of a curiously Occidental form of modern isometrics, for it appeared to involve his tightly holding on to a mobile phone while they attempted to wrest it away from him, as with feigned savagery they kicked him repeatedly on the shins. When the draftsman failed in his efforts to isometrically project the image of God onto a two-dimensional canvass, he sought the advice of a renowned starets and Eastern Orthodox iconographer, who didn't usually advise occidentals, perceiving them as obstreperous heretics, but in this case was willing to suggest fasting, penance and the renunciation of Euclidean geometry. While the neat Korean children sat listening gravely to their teacher, like disciples at the feet of a starets, the visiting Occidental (newly arrived from Boston, USA) was being obstreperous, an irritating study in varieties of muscle contraction, the teacher's least favorite at the moment being the isometric contraction of the child's leg muscles whereby she kept her group's table elevated about five inches off the floor at one end by raising the cross brace on her ankles, so that everybody's worksheets slid off onto the floor.
