His arms were succumbing to the dreaded metamorphosis, but our hero, not yellow in the least, and quite expert at resolving Gordian Knots, managed to use his legs—recalling a wrestling move known as The Brachyuran—to pinch and fatally crush his opponent, thus ending the villain's Halloween plot to inflict apocolocyntosis on all the innocent children of Pleasantville, and allowing the town's sleepless homemakers to resume their circadian rituals... as if nothing had really happened, as if the storm had been but a zephyr, as if an off-his-gourd sorcerer had never actually threatened the mass pumpkinfication of the town's precious babes, and life had always been easy as pie. Marooned there in the Stygian gloom, in a sea-laved cavern deep beneath the karst, I lost all track of time, all response to circadian rhythms, and on an allergenic fleshy diet exclusively brachyuran my face so swelled up to the point of acute apocolocyntosis that I eventually emerged into a welcome onshore zephyr the very image of a crabby Hallowe'en hobthrush. The piles of papers on his desk had been slightly displaced by the early spring zephyrs coming through the open window and now his brachyuran fingers scuttled around searching for the distinctive KCB Samen cucurbitaceae catalog in which he hoped to find seeds of the perfect Halloween pumpkin of which he was expected to be able to contribute at least a dozen carved specimens to the apocolocyntosis of the neighborhood on October 31, provided the weather cooperated for the next ninety days and provided the plants' circadian rhythms weren't disrupted by being grown in the Southern Hemisphere. With circadian regularity he suffered from an acute case of apocolocyntosis, which he found could be remedied only by gorging his jack-o-lantern maw with a brachyuran meal of Dungeness-stuffed avocado while simultaneously cooling down his expanding cranium under the soothing caress of a Mediterranean zephyr.
