Once again, the big investment banks are holding Wall Street's corrupt version of the potlatch, a high stakes game of chicken where they risk everything, but are secretly confident that they will be bailed out well short of destitution, parlaying their connections to the highest levels of government into official statements of support and what seem to the frightened middle class to be official and irrefutable arguments (put together by highly-paid artificers who justify con men for a living) against letting the banks fail. It is irrefutable that when the divine artificer created man on earth he schemed to parlay him to a paradisal state, namely the heavenly potlatch, where the seasoned exalted would shower beatitudes on recent arrivees, whose newly sanctified humility would instantly (and thenceforth for all eternity, so perhaps waxing wearisome?) beget a reciprocal lavishment of superabundant blessings.
