Quadrivial Quandary: Logophiles, Rejoice! Each day we give you four unusual words. Can you fit them all in one illustrative sentence?

Attempts to resolve the Quandary:

Stifled by the tedium of mapmaking, and too weary to launch his career de novo, the cartographer malingered his way into an early state-funded retirement, but he began to reconsider this scheme upon meeting his new neighbors in the asylum and finding that that they would not acknowledge the pastness of Gondwana. Evelyn had such a fondness for the sort of thick novel endowed with a cartographer's handiwork on its frontispiece (spidery mountain ranges labeled with vaguely Latinate inscriptions, chosen de novo or lifted shamelessly from Tolkein), evoking pastness with descriptions of a spurious pastoral utopia, and cataloguing the exploits of a plucky band of heroes who, yet again, rescue the known world from some encroaching malevolence generally associated with orcs, that she malingered in bed feigning yet another attack of pleurisy, hiding said novel under her pillow when her mother came to check on her, rather than attending her job as an assistant burger-flipper. (by Amalia)

One unrecorded fact of Christopher Columbus' first voyage to the new world which has been interred in pastness by centuries of neglect by historians is that the chief cartographer aboard the Nina was wholly incompetent at charting new lands and that he malingered below deck for weeks when compelled to ignore all previous efforts to map the eastern Indies and to undertake his task de novo. (by Sami)

The author, known as an assiduous cartographer of the fusty social rituals of yesteryear, may in this latest novel at first sight appear to have renounced his obsession with pastness, striking out de novo with a futuristic setting that, however, proves to hinge upon the wistful sick-bed reminiscences of a malingering android valetudinarian.
