There’s no gravitas in this competition unless you can win the Bumf-Sled speed competition – discarded stationary, foolscap, flyers, junk mail, tax manuals, health department warnings, that's one year’s worth from the entire community – a two-man tow of a sledful on grass, but the riddle is: if it rains is it easier or harder, because figuring that out fast on that day is what makes men great in these parts. (by docephesus)

The riddle of Professor Quislington's intellectual legacy is still hotly debated among academics: was his comprehensive "History of Bumf" (a sociocultural chronicle of junk mail, ending with internet spam and beginning with the unwanted piles of foolscap delivered to monasteries in the 14th century promising "all thy sins expiated at one low price") truly a watershed work, or merely an effort to lend gravitas to an utterly undeserving cultural phenomenon? (by Amalia)

They speak to us, no, they speechify at us with manufactured eloquence and forced gravitas about the merits of social programs, of defense spending, of economic stimuli,... but when the endless foolscap of tax returns and other budgetary bumpf are tabulated every year, the riddle remains on whether we are getting our money's worth. (by Sami)

"BUMF!!" came the thud of a sheaf of foolscap upon my doorstep, and rifling through it with utmost gravitas, I soon found the answer to the riddle of its existence: for it consisted of a congeries of government forms, legal documents, junk mail, promotional pamphlets, etc., and therefore my quandary ended as it had begun: with bumf. (by saintdufus)

Given the strain of impenetrable gravitas affected in those bewildering small-print clauses embedded deep within the bumf issued by the banks, is it any wonder that the usurers' riddles find themselves immediately consigned either to the wagga pagga bagga, or at best to some mouldering foolscap box file that once held your Botany Field Notes and shreds of desiccated fern? (by Et Seqq)

Whilst Cheesy Pomplington was fully aware of the gravitas of the foolscap menacing him from its lair on the bureau, he chose to dismiss it as trifling bumf and return to the enticing riddle enclosed within The Mystery of The Perplexed Turbot. (by Mellifluous)

I realised the gravitas of the situation when I discovered, amongst the bumf that the postman delivered, the very solution to my riddle scribbled upon a single sheet of foolscap. (by alaistair)
