Attempts to resolve the Quandary:

Although he had spent his early career in the orbit of a senior brewer, our hero was now at apastron with his role model and ready to experiment with an original recipe: as he watched eddies of his new concoction swirl in the brewpot, he knew he'd be spending the next few months on tenterhooks, wondering whether the organoleptic merits of the finished batch would exceed those of his safer creations. When at the dance I declared (on tenterhooks, since until that moment I hadn't ever plucked up courage to converse with a real girl ) that her organoleptic magnetism had drawn me across the floor - as apastron closes on periastron - to her numinous scented radiance, I sensed that she did not altogether savour the celestial simile, for, as fulsome gallants eddied around her, she vouchsafed me only a curt expletive. "The way that little eddy of water is swirling reminds me of the orbital pattern of a star at apastron in a binary system," said Cheech, taking a bite of his burrito; and I gazed in wonder as the corpulent janitor wiped his sleeve across his face and added, "I'm on tenterhooks as I contemplate the potential organoleptic ramifications of that particular configuration for the fauna of this rivulet." When we were young and on tenterhooks for each other's every word, I used to love Shawna Starr's astronomy metaphors, like for example when she called me in the heat of passion her 'furry little organoleptic E.T.' or her 'intergallactic overlord' or even her 'kinder, gentler Darth Vader', but years later, when our marriage was caught in the eddies of advancing age, the metaphors were no longer amusing and I resented her saying we had grown apart and 'toward apastron'.
