I watched, transfixed by the images of the jacquerie on television while the peasants with pitchforks collided with the reactionary defenders of the status quo, and my anguish rose further at the sight of the usually staid and prinked Geraldine, once a love interest of mine, ranting angrily at the cameras, her formerly lofty spirit swirling down to earth like a dying samara.
