Attempts to resolve the Quandary:

When Professor Flatus asked me to summarize the key themes in Frodo Cräpling's The Manciple & the Serving Wench, I was "caught with my pants down around my ankles," as we used to say back on the farm; so I temporized, ad-libbing some off-the-cuff eisegesis about Roderick "recompensing" the serving wench after-hours, as a sort of side deal the two servants had worked out.

For his not voluntarily recompensing The Bullingdon Club for several clumsy breakages at the champagne breakfast, its members did not temporise but forthwith summoned the wretched manciple to appear before them, charging him that (according to their befuddled eisegesis of an obscure probity clause in his contract) every bottle smashed should immediately be replaced by at least two of the same or better quality.
