Bob Fossick, an amiable archaeologist who had lapsed into mental illness after eating a tainted batch of Cap'n Crunch, was fond of trapsing about the weald wearing nothing but a diaper (and no ordinary diaper at that: for the bottom of it was emblazoned with an image of Art Carney), fossicking about in the wilderness in search of various "ointments," which he seemed to regard as essential for victory in some obscure cosmic game he was playing.
