Robin Redbreaste, that roué twitcher extraordinaire, spent the last five decades traveling around the world – all expenses paid by Bird Watcher Today – to the adulation of birders (in particular, the single female ones) everywhere, until a screed appeared in Aubudon describing in lurid detail his extra-avian exploits.

Sir Flatchrick Smithers, that drunken old roue, scandalized the birdwatchers at the Twitcher's Society meeting last Wednesday, when in the midst of the torpid proceedings he suddenly leaped upon a table dressed as an emu, one talon clutching a goblet of Old Winyards and the other bearing aloft a first edition of Henley's Compleat Birds, and belted forth an adulatory screed on "the mating habits of some of the naughtier species," leaving shockingly little to the imagination ere tumbling drunkenly from the gueridon onto some pears, among whose fruity domain he lapsed mercifully into a minor coma.
