The white-coated poseur was pontificating about the plutodemocracy promoted by U.S. health insurance companies, boasting about his amazing skills in physical exam, including incredible findings on auscultation, and professing the need to stay a step ahead of others by spending the extra money to receive the New England Journal of Medicine a day earlier than one’s peers, while the new medical students gaped in awe and clutched their brand new Harriet Lane Handbooks, the vade mecum of the doctor to be.
