Melvin was such a nebbish that he was unable to appreciate the xenophilia felt by his neighbors, who not only could countenance cultures and customs different from their own, but joyously participate in the celebrations and the delicious food and mellifluous music that accompanied them, so every morning he sat at home in silence and nibbled on the ungarnished bowl of kasha that his mother had cooked for him.

"I will not countenance your flippin' xenophilia!" shrieked Digby's father angrily, as he hurled a steaming bowl of kasha at his son's startled head (fortunately, the nebbish Digby managed to duck in time, whereupon the porridge splattered all o'er his beloved wall map of Quelchland, drenching the region of Outer Snozbury [and most of Upper Surmbury and the Plorkney Islands] in succulent groats).

It's not easy to retain countenance with your face in hot oily kasha, especially for a nebbish like Norton - he ran out of the parlour crying and cursing his xenophilia that made him abandon his usual reticence and try Russian cuisine.
