“Art for art’s sake”, an exhibit of nowise practical objects was opening at the Glockenspiel Gallery, featuring objects emphasizing the belletristic aspects of books, such as handwritten, embellished, and gilded Bibles copied in the years before the printing press was invented, and maquettes for lofty structures which were far from “green” or usable space, unless ex post facto renovation of the actual building was to be done.

For a while I considered these letters to be exact ex post facto maquettes of the situation, fruits of sober afterthought and reflection - but later on still, in my book, I introduced them nowise but as purely belletrisitic exercises.

Shortly after viewing the architects' maquette, the king had given his approval for the construction of a grandiose royal library but he decided to obtain the ex post facto endorsement of his subjects through a referendum on the design, notwithstanding the fact that most of them were nowise literate and had no appreciation for fine books or other belletristic creations.
