In writing what he thought was a sensitive, heartfelt, and deeply touching opera about football, the composer hoped to offer a solution to the famous Battle Of The Sexes from game theory – offering men and women an activity that would appeal to them equally – but the venture turned out to be far less lucriferous than he had hoped, since no one wanted to pay high ticket prices to witness what one critic deemed “a bathetic performance lacking in any real aliment for the lover of drama or of sport.”

"We have to lift our relationship to another level, from lose-lose to a battle of the sexes, a form of win-win that will prove lucriferous to both nations while providing the needed aliments to our peoples" said the Secretary of State, but his foreign counterpart was struggling through a destructive divorce and was repulsed by what he interpreted as a bathetic plea and undiplomatic metaphor.
