The customer exhibited what we might call a dearth of "interpretive flexibility" and simply could not understand how a bar called The Meadery served no honey-wine but only honeyless beer: feeling that his trust had been betrayed, he refused to establish a fiducial relationship with his waiter, whose every statement he sought to decorticate as if to reveal some lie that must be hidden beneath its crust. Having exposed the dearth of truth under his sincere exterior, the candidate said to her now decorticated opponent, "If you've actually worked in a meadery, you'd know mead comes from honey and water," which sounded proverbial enough to sever any fiducial relationships that voters still had with him.
