Bertie was a demiurge in the theater – or maybe just a control freak – and his most recent project had him billed as both writer and director, but he had also cast himself in a role which he relished, as Tomas de Torquemada, a leader of the Spanish Inquisition, and he reveled in a scene where, clad elegantly in scarlet and miniver, he lapsed into histrionics during the tribunal and shrieked, “I delate you for a warlock!”.

Seeing himself as a demiurge, the rocker was prone to self-important histrionics, such as trimming all his shirts with miniver as if he had recently become a medieval statesman, a stunt which led some non-fans to wish there was a Council On Narcissism In Rock that they could delate him to.
