Although he approached us under the aegis of the so-called Historical Landmark Society, it was clear that Mr. Jones' story about “protecting” our old building was a lollapalooza of a fairy tale, and indeed he became quite snappish when we called him on being a knacker whose true intention was to demolish the building for scrap metal.

The knacker was being snappish with the manager of the Upton Hotel after he was denied a contract to provide meat for the lollapalooza fundraiser for the local animal shelter, for even though he worked under the aegis of the Upton restaurant catering service, the manager was quite concerned that the event would lose its celebrity support if a rumor started about the buggy horses which recently retired from service at the front of the hotel being served up at a feast in the ballroom.
