Flint Sparks -- known as “Sparky” to his friends, the editor of the Phillumenist Society newsletter “Light My Fire”, was known for his gnomic writing style with pithy sayings about matches, but the latest edition exuded thinly disguised schadenfreude and was full of news about his recent acquisition of a matchbook collector’s dream – not by primary means (inheritance by a relative), or secondary (bequest to a charitable organization in a will), but by a tertiary avenue (auction of the contents of a storage locker for a pittance with a prized collection buried in the clutter of a lifetime).

"This is going to end badly", my mantic and gnomic wife said every time we drove past the gas station owned by our phillumenist neighbor, but on the day his collection of matches and matchboxes caught fire and blew up the fuel tanks, she felt no schadenfreude and spoke no 'I-told-you-so-s' but instead worried about the secondary effects of smoke and tertiary impact on the environment.
