Knowing as I do the tendency of my golf partners to linger over drinks at the nineteenth hole, quibbling over their last round scorecards and generally shilly-shallying the afternoon away, I reserved the tee time for our second round in advance, cajoling my reluctant foursome onto the course with promises of first-round drinks on me after our match.
