Quadrivial Quandary: Logophiles, Rejoice! Each day we give you four unusual words. Can you fit them all in one illustrative sentence?

Attempts to resolve the Quandary:

Jimmy Herbert was one of those elder statesmen of jazz who assumed all students of the music were like Tristan McLaren—ultimately malapert toward the traditions of swing and bebop, with the reptilianness of their competitive attitude preventing them from being anything but hackneyed codicils to the jazz canon—without realizing that he was pretty unknown and boring himself.

(by Elijah Shiffer)

They were the most unlikely of partners, the one a slippery, deadly, reptilian creature, the other, a patient, handsome, composed young man, thought by all to be quite the charmer; but the truth was other wise, for at the end of the day, the young man ran into the dark and stormy night and spent himself on debauchery, drink and dissolute decadence, meanwhile the snake would spend a quiet night in his basket with a yummy dead rat–and here a special codicil to the readers of QQ, while winning the prestigious Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest, is a remarkable honor, submitting other people’s work, i.e. my own hackneyed writings, would be malapert.

The book's cold and cruel author exhibited such reptilianness that the reader felt his malapert disdain all the way up to the codicil, which failed to clarify any of the flaws or logic of the half-assed, hackneyed arguments he thrust upon the poor, hapless reader in a slow, constricting torture for the rest of the book.

My wife, you see, was a base, treacherous creature, whose reptilianness extended so far as an attempt to add a codicil to her will disinheriting me -- a hackneyed notion she must have copied out of one of her cheap novels -- but this malapert gesture came to naught, for she passed away quite unexpectedly before our solicitor could pay us a visit.
