A gaggle of Panglossian hobbledehoys attended Bernard Zweig's lecture at the lyceum hoping to absorb assuring information about how to make it in multidisciplinary education; however when Dr. Zweig saw the growing number of gangly yobs entering, he decided to start by vouchsafing the unpredictability and hard knocks of the road he knew would await them.

I offered to vouchsafe one of my tickets for the lecture on Christian temperance down at the lyceum to that silly hobbledehoy who cleans our pool, but in his panglossian simplicity he told me that God must have wanted us to drink, else why did He make liquor taste so good and render our senses so delightfully tipsy? As Mrs. Tuttle, a woman who believed she could transform the lowliest hobbledehoy into a gallant, approached the steamy and fecund widow Ash with the wan, young, pimply-faced Lawrence Lipper, a recent graduate of Miss Tuttle’s lyceum for Lotharios, on her arm, the watching wags leered, laughed and lauded Mrs. Tuttle’s acumen, knowing the introduction would vouchsafe the young man’s success.
