Attempts to resolve the Quandary:

Their liaison began when Henry confided in Helen that he felt out of place at the black-tie affair, "like an allochthonous rock," deposited where he nowise belonged—a comment which, to his surprise, caused her to giggle and suggest that he might feel more comfortable if he were to remove his cummerbund and wear it as a bandana.

Trying to describe the very desparate and frustrating nature of US health care policy to my online technical liaisons who work in Europe and Canada is a challenge being it is such an allochthonous concept to them, and as to whatever they have heard about it, ObamaCare is nowise a step toward a system like their own universal health care, and is actually just more diversion of taxpayer money directly to private health insurance corporations, won't provide universal coverage or care, and will actually be more costly per capita than our present system; it is an expensive and useless "improvement" about as appropriate as wearing a cummerbund on a nude beach.

"True, I had noticed they spoke in allochtonous accents, but I was nowise aware that my yard workers were illegal immigrants", murmured the candidate, absentmindedly picking crumbs from between the folds of his cummerbund, and thanking heaven the press had not yet gotten wind of his liaison with the porn-star daughter of a Mexican drug lord.
