Attempts to resolve the Quandary:

Comporting herself with dignity, Jessie explained that she would needs must immure the brothers in the cellar, just temporarily, lest her husband, the Alleged Intruder AKA etc, returned unexpectedly and, with a bar of Fry's Five Boys each and a jug of lemonade between them, they easily acquiesced, so, slipping off her sabots and donning a pair of stylish mules, she set off to relate this recent development to Sadie with whom Jessie planned to share the spoils of war, whichever possible outcome resulted; Sadie was suitably gobsmacked at the story the boys had told - unlike Jessie she did read newspapers and listened to the BBC news broadcasts twice a day and, while she had heard nothing about this Intruder in Gorbals, she did know all about the Reichsmarshall's trial. conviction and suicide and when Jessie showed her Snooker Tam's paper and she looked carefully at the photograph of Hermann Goering, she did admit that if you covered up the lower part of his face, to hide the absence of Hamish's tash, and the top part to hide the different hairstyles, the middle section was remarkably similar to Jessie's husband: "ye ken, Hen, it is awfy like him, did he no huv ony ither extinguishin features? like birth merks or warts or tattoos? ane baw bigger and tither ane wee'r? sum wey ye kid be certain, afore ye decide whit tae dae?" and Jessie pondered and pondered and pondered, then said "aye!" it wis a licht-bulb moment! her face shone as she beamed and nodded and then said: "ma auld Hamish's cock turned a bit tae the left, an noo it turns a bit tae the richt! yon wee Snooker Tam's richt enuff, he's a composter!"
