And while, in the room, the women come and go, talking of Michaelangelo, they never notice the milky-white marmorean statue at the door, why would they, it is neither significant nor attributed, but when J Alfred Prufrock, his starched high collar cutting into his neck, paused to untie and re-tie his shoe laces quite unnecessarily, the white eyes of the statue seemed almost to gaze upon him and though the lips barely shivered, Prufrock heard a voice of calm mansuetude inform him that "on the night of 17th-18th September, the first Sudetendeutsches Freikorps Assaults will take place in the vicinity of in The Sudetenland: them's the salient facts, now listen carefully, I shall say this only once . . . . . . . . . ." and 20 minutes later, his head filled with more information than he had ever had hot dinners, Prufrock hurried from the Gallery and into a café, intent on making the most important telephone call of his life when, suddenly, the course of World History was changed utterly, in the space of but a few brief seconds!
