Attempts to resolve the Quandary:

1

Dateline: Gotham City, 30 seconds later; it was almost serendipitous that Miranda Holmquist turned her head just a fraction of an inch and caught sight of an atrociously-dressed man move just a quarter turn and she felt as if her brain had been degaussed, she had lost the power to recall anything which had happened in the previous 32 years of her life, since her birth in fact; it was the other man, revealed in the small movement, who had caused this erasing of every fragment from her brain, rendered her utterly and helplessly incoherent, unable to speak, to raise an eyebrow, to open her eyes any wider than they already were; Howard Allason noticed this fact first, but Fred Dinnage was only a second or two behind: they each, quite separately registered that something was wrong, but knew not what – and at almost exactly the same time, they tracked the direction of her stare, so it was by a process of triangulation that they were both led to see the man whose appearance had so traumatically affected her, and they knew instantly that it was their Host, the person who had invited them, and they were both shaken to the very core of their separate beings, for they immediately recognised him, but not as Sir Parlane MacFarlane, oh no, for it was in fact someone very different indeed!
