Attempts to resolve the Quandary:

And so they schlepped from Washington's Trumpington Presidential Airport on a workaday flight of commuters between the two great cities – nothing highfalutin about it, thought Hyman to himself as he surveyed the grey suits and grey faces, just like any subway car except this one's got wings – to New York's Trumpington City Airport, rather than Trumpington International Airport which is exclusively, as the name describes, for flights from England, an outpost of the Republic of New York and Washington, in Europe; this is Gotham City, not the New Jersey-based location of the Batman cartoons, no, this is the Real Deal, Washington Irving's Gotham brought to life in the 21st Century, and for Hyman Z Kaplan, Sadie Moskowitz and Rose Mitnick, simply, Hometown; this is where they were born, the home of their parents and their childhood, where they had learned haphazard mixtures of Yiddish and Hebrew and street-English and after graduating from High School they studied what they thought of as 'Proper' English in Mr Parkhill's Evening Class among a motley crew of immigrants and aspiring citizens; their birthplace had granted them Citizenship, but their aspirations required more so they went on to do courses in History and Politics with Sociology and Psychology (hey, it was invented by Jews) and on graduating from Columbia University's Journalism School they had, all three of them, gone into what at the time was referred to within the business as 'The Print' - when there were Real Journals, printed on paper, newsprint, on which to work, to learn the ropes, pay their dues and rise through the ranks; all three of them – working separately but always keeping in touch – had made their names with social and political stories like the Master Interviewer Studs Terkel who had been, in many ways, their inspiration, and in whose footsteps they had trudged; Hyman never denied that he lacked one of the basic requirements to be a Woman: he could only unitask, the multiplication of plates any woman, even his kid sister Greta, who couldn't tie her own laces till she was eleven and suddenly there wasn't anyone around dumb enough to do them for her, could spin, multitasking like a juggler on Speed, especially one who can have half a dozen disparate weights, shapes and sizes in constant motion. while drinking a cup of coffee, smoking a cigar and conducting a telephone conversation with her Uncle Leo who's calling from Panama via an operator in Nanking who only speaks Mandarin; now that kind of ability was just one of life's mysteries to Hymie, so he stuck to what he did best and let the girls take care of the rest!

Dolores Windemere had always been poor, so she had to schlep her laundry to the bus stop and thence to the laundromat, where she sat staring into space as her clothes went round and round; people thought she was a highfalutin snob too proud to talk to them, but she was merely unitasking, because she had read multitasking is bad for you, and there she would sit until the haphazard shaking and bouncing of the cheap machines made her get up to go see that her clothes were still in one piece (by TheMagicalExplodingUnicorns)
