Attempts to resolve the Quandary:

And in the tavern, Luther bought a jug of ale for each of them and the two men sat by the window, where they could see the first flakes of winter snow beginning to float down: "do you see how the snow changes everything?" asked Brother Martin and Doopeltag nodded: "aye, it makes the world seem clean again," which brought a chuckle from deep in Luther's chest: "it dazzles and it smears and blurs so that things we see are different, fresh, but also unfocussed – a friend of mine is a lens-maker and he has shown me how different lenses can change the way we see what is in front of us, he can change the depth of field, create a bokeh – well, that's what he calls it – by putting some images into a kind of soft-focus, as if a light is shining out from within, I've looked at a whore who could pass for the Madonna, and a chimney-sweep you would think was the Lord Jesus, just by different combinations of lens in a special spectacle-holder; my friend says using different lenses in a camera obscura can turn the world upside-down, or inside-out and will, in time, enable images to be preserved through the use of certain chemicals; now, I'm no tin-pot fortune-teller, Brother Doopeltag, cross my hand with silver and I'll cross your neck with my knife for the insult!" and as Doopeltag drew back, the monk laughed and slapped his shoulder: "a jest, Brother, I only make one prediction – live a truthful life, take The Lord into thy heart as thy Saviour, repent of slacktivism and fill your days with energy and honest toil and come the End of Time you will reap your reward in Heaven's Bounty my son – but come, I perceive that when I mentioned the camera obscura you did not know what I meant, right?" and Doopeltag finding that following the monk's train of thought was not so easy as he had first believed, agreed: "so come with me, this is truly an Eighth Wonder of the World – the City as never before seen, but I won't spoil the surprise for you, let it speak for itself," so, quite confused and feeling that he had already lost whatever control he might have believed he had when he had first spoken to Luther earlier, Doopeltag rose and accompanied his new friend, only half listening now to his talk of repentance and Heaven's Bounty, with not a word about the Holy Father in Rome or how much these Blessings would cost! a Priest who doesn't charge by the word was a new one on Count Peppin's man and even if this 'Wonder' was just another 'Weeping' Virgin Mary or a lump of bread miraculously resembling God in Heaven, it would be something to report to his Master!

I hated the pokey
Room I was assigned;
I hated the bokeh
Effect it brought to mind,
A tinpot Decorator
Had had the room designed;
Who either was the waiter
Or possibly was blind,
A slacktivism campaign
Revealed itself to me,
By which I could explain
The way things ought to be:
Bin the razzle-dazzle,
Trash the bokeh tat,
Paint the room soft hazel
And  - please - leave it at that.
