"Milly, pack a bag, were going to New York, or Gotham City as you insist on calling it, but don't expect to meet Catwoman, this is strictly business!" called DI Isa Urquhart to DS Milly Millican and knew she had guessed right when she saw the excited look on her Sergeant's face; their tickets were quickly booked for a late flight that night and so, by 11pm SMT (Scottish Mean Time – and that's not a joke about the untrue calumny, since Scotland separated from the United Kingdom, just in time, before then Prime Minister Jacob Rees-Mogg signed England's independence away in a deal with the Republic of New York and District of Columbia only to find that, when he shook hands with then President Donald 'Duck' Trumpet-Trousers, he was left with a wodge of used gum stuck fast to the palm of his hand and the words: "that's about the best you're gonna get outa this deal, Moggy, and PS: you're fired!") – they were boarding Tartanair's Chatoyant (though jaded passengers still called it the Red-eye) to Gotham City, arriving there at 11pm, NYST; Milly had already done work on their quarry, confirming that the two suspects had indeed been lifted as D&I but were found to have rather serious injuries and were treated at Trumpington University Hospital, and – once their identities were realised – under Police guard; after their discharge into Police Custody they were transferred to The Bronx for questioning about a range of possible charges and the NYPD bosses were watching very closely; the fact that DNA evidence put them firmly in the frame for several historic murders in Scotland and that two officers were currently mid-Atlantic hoping to liaise with officers in The Bronx already had the DA rubbing her hands with pleasure at the prospect of bring the Scotchmen down and she would even support them standing trial in Scotland if the murders were as tight as the encapsulation she had received indicated: "ya know, Laverne," she said to her secretary, "this could turn out to be a historic case – it crosses Time Zones, an Ocean, goes back twenty years for the Melrose Murders, and there is documentation about things they had going on over here before The Doll's House Explosion, and we have footage of them in the basement immediately prior to the place going up – if we want a showroom for International Co-operation, this could be It!" and Laverne, pouring her boss a Double Laphraoigh, looked up: "who'd ya wanna play you when it's dramatised on TV, Crystal?" and the DA had a think and asked: "d'ya think any of the Kardashians got the balls f'rit?"

My quarry was the perfect Christmas gift
To heal a longtime inter-family rift;
It would need to encapsulate the love
That the family circle now was incapable of.
So I visited our local giftshop's showroom
And bought chatoyant junk to lift the gloom.
Instead of thanking me, the family scoffed,
And flung them all aside and binned the lot!
