And it was even before he reached Holyrood that Dixie O'Hooligan said it into her phone, to them all – Riddle Rankine having set up the conference call while walking past John Knox's House: "he's either gaun in tae visit the Queen or it's Arthur's Seat he's headin fur," and it quickly became clear that the vega was indeed his destination, and he soon began walking anti-clockwise on The Radical Road which snakes between the famous peak and the lesser hill to the east; "at least the feckin scapegrace isnae goanie dae a heider aff The Crags," puffed Bunty to her twin, as they kept the target in sight," but Dixie wasn't convinced: "fae the tap o The Seat he could get a helluvva run tae The Crags and dae a Eddie the Eagle swan-dive, it's happened afore - mind whin they had thon stupit munny-savin curfew an aw the city lichts went oot atween ten at nicht an fower in the mornin, it wis a Mugger's Charter an the suicide rate jumped, if ye'll no mind the term, an they said 60% did the rush doon Arthur's Seat an the leap aff Salisbury Crags - it becam the Embra fashionista's Wey Tae Gaun!" and at that early evening time, there was little traffic on the road, on that stretch at least, and they soon spotted him leave the road itself and begin the stiff climb up Edinburgh's famous landmark, at which point they were overtaken by Riddle Rankine and Felix Rosenstiel, who advised the girls to swing round the side of the hill so that if the eejit did try the run down they could cut him off: "duz he think we play Rugger Buggers?" Bunty laughed and Dixie stopped to light two fags, handing one to her sister as they began the trot along the contour; and as the sky darkened and thunder began to rumble with the forecast break in the weather fast approaching from the West, they all saw the Blood Moon rising in the East and even Elginbrod paused and stared at it, as if it was a numinous portent; he hadn't heard the voice again, knew nothin of his pursuers, had no intentions beyond reaching the top as he'd been instructed, though he did wonder if there would be someone waiting at there for him, or even a message or clue planted there to explain why he was doing this crazy thing that he had last done, on New Year's Morning, forty years ago, when he was younger and fitter, before he reached his present older and fatter self, but concluded that there was no point in wondering, for pretty soon, all will be revealed!
