She closed the drawer, leaving the sheet of paper within, but later, sitting in the gardena glass of Laphraoigh in handlistening to Tavish explain the difference between anemious plants, which seem to thrive in windy conditions, and the more sensitive ones for which he chose sheltered, protected places, Carmen thought that she, herself, had never before shrunk from the challenges of life, until now, and look where that had got her, oh, she had trounced her noughts and crosses opponent, but that was long ago and she had no idea if he was still alive, nor any need to find out, and then she reproved herself for that dismissive thought, which was when she heard the garden gate creak and turned to look in it's direction and saw at once that pastinaceous head, which had always reminded her of a parsnip—an anaemic carrot someone had called him—and her glass slipped from her fingers as she fainted and loudly shattered on the stone patio!
