    As the students made their way back to the law school, crossing the courtyard's wide green sward, the 3Ls regaled each other with their summer stories, in which they had bested other interns with their legal acumen (or ability to consume alcohol), while the 1Ls schlepped in, carrying their weight in books and fear.

    Although old Professor S. was eminently qualified to hold forth on eastern philosophy, he was more suited to the written form than classroom instruction because of his spleenful temperament, which on his best days caused his students to fidget, and on his worst created in them a veritable fantod.
