Quadrivial Quandary: Logophiles, Rejoice! Each day we give you four unusual words. Can you fit them all in one illustrative sentence?
Quandary Resolution 1118
pygmalionism, penalize, hawthorn, empyrean
Daphne may have been turned into a laurel tree, but Hilda thought being a hawthorn would be nicer, since just standing under it and gazing up through the glossy leaves and the cluster of tiny white blossoms into the azure Empyrean was heaven on earth, although it occurred to her that her Golden Retriever might construe such a transmogrification as the longed-for outcome of his adoring wish that she never leave home and he might then become unpleasantly proprietorial (a canine Pygmalion), because it seemed as though being rooted to the spot where the dog could pee on her several times a day would be just the sort of be-careful-what-you-wish-for penalizing the gods particularly enjoy.
