Albert Wieckowski, whose unprepossessing looks and sullen demeanor gave no clue to the giant (and playful) intellect within, held the sort of sinecure traditionally reserved for brainiacs without any interpersonal skills: Office of Business Reference Librarian for the School of Petroleum Geology, where his only contacts were with rare oleaginous graduate students who thought it would be rewarding to work for BP and where otherwise he could work unselfconsciously on fitting the moons of Saturn into the orrery he was making out of office supplies.
