Within the olla podrida of costumes on display at the halloween party, my own was an acanaceous plant, a reluctant choice which redounded to my advantage nonetheless, for though I sobbed and moaned about not being the delicate orchid I so yearned to embody, any guest who accused me of bathos was soon chastened by my prickles.
