I was eating lunch outside the UN building, middle-aged and in the middle of my vexing career, looking at the flags of various nations, wondering if I should switch to vexillology, the study that combines my true interests (visual representation of emotions, political history of the world, colors and countries), when a quintessential sign from above, all anonymous and mischievous, manifested in aeolian form, setting half the flags around the building aflutter, and knocking my semese sandwich out of my hands.
