Believing that any challenge to the King’s authority would require Antean force and unrealistically good luck to succeed, the farmer had been wishy-washy about participating in a planned uprising, but when carucage was increased and he could no longer afford to keep his own plows, he let them be refashioned into weapons for use in a vespertine plot to attack the tax collector in his sleep.
