Quandary Resolution 1439
charm offensive, pyrotechnics, cadence, rataplan
Hoping to regain her affection I employed all available pyrotechnics (chocolates, flowers, compliments) in my charm offensive, and our makeup date was going well indeed, but just as I whispered to her that our hearts were again “rataplanning as one,” the romantic climax came to a very dissonant cadence: she said she couldn't hear me over the din, she hissed at my choice of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture as mood music, and said she'd much rather listen to Wagner's Tristan und Isolde.
