Summoned by my complaint that there were bits of cork bobbing around in the wine the head waiter conceded only that it did indeed seem to be a peculiarly tactile and zaftig inebriant, and then, deaf to my further remonstrations, was steeve enough to pronounce that under no circumstances would the management obrogate its existing Rules of Imbibement whereby customers who smuggled in their own supermarket plonk would be charged corkage.
