As for why she remained a spinster, some thought the problem was her being a laconic amnicolist -- a woman who spoke tersely to suitors, preferring to hear the voice of the river she lived beside -- while others thought the problem was her being an unfashionable amnicolist -- a woman who admired that river through kenspeckle spectacles that announced her eccentricity but upstaged her clear green eyes.
