Quandary Resolution 1813
excommunicate, ornithopter, parlay, confiscable
The painter hoped to parlay his success in representing birds on canvas into a greater achievement, the creation of a flying birdlike sculpture, but when his much-anticipated Ornithopter was finally unveiled on a helipad specially installed atop a major New York museum, several viewers called for the critical excommunication of the artist and an official from the Parks Department declared the work itself confiscable, for this sculpture—supposedly the product of a six year labor—was nothing more than a traumatized street pigeon, dressed in a bird-shaped body suit that had the appearance of Carrera marble.
