Quadrivial Quandary: Logophiles, Rejoice! Each day we give you four unusual words. Can you fit them all in one illustrative sentence?
Quandary Resolution 1869
nankeen, belligerent, gimcrack, retrograde
The rich kid always brought a gimcrack after his dad's trip to Singapore or his uncle's trip to Malaysia: this time it was a pencil-sharpener in the form of an awfully nankeen chick (I wondered if the chick had had too much turmeric), which the class bully managed to quickly appropriate right in the middle of the class, and when the belligerent teacher approached the bully, he (the bully) in his retrograde bumped into one of the girls' desks and fell backwards on one of the girls, and for some reason that was the funniest thing for the rest of us.
