Kentridge was a laconic man who preferred to let his sartorial tastes do the talking for him: today, for instance, he sported an outlandish Hawaiian shirt combining fractal shorelines, garish hibiscus blossoms, and sunsets in harlequin colors, which he hoped would communicate to the world at large both his misunderstood artistic leanings and his vague desire to be elsewhere.
