Quandary Resolution 1933
misogamy, worsted, vanguard, trepidation
When Buster's wife challenged him to an unspecified “contest of skill and endurance,” he accepted with much trepidation, suspecting that she had in mind not one of the amorous marathons of their premarital life, but something distinctly less enjoyable: his fears were confirmed when it turned out to be a yarn-spinning challenge, in which Buster's wife quickly worsted him, showing her own talents to be at the vanguard of human handspinning ability, and leaving her poor husband to feel that the wool had been pulled over his eyes once again, not only with regard to his prospects in the competition but with regard to the tolerability of marriage itself (excerpt from Chapter 1 of The Making of A Misogamist).
