Quandary Resolution 2013
rundlet, hallows, alterity, weal
Pleasantville's residents treat the estate of their late mayor Barry Oak like the hallows of a saint, and they attribute the weal of their local economy (particularly the tourism sector) to him, for it was beloved Barry who put their once-obscure town “on the map,” doing whatever he could not just to maintain “The Ville's” quirky traditions, but to establish new ones that would further advertise the town's alterity: for example, his celebrated decision to adopt the rundlet (approximately 15 gallons) as the official unit of fluid measure for all commercial transactions.
