Our nighttime stroll on the beach had all the ingredients of romance--so I thought--but my companion made it seem a supererogation of his duty to endure the affair: he complained that the clumps of dulse on the shore looked like slimy monsters and the zenith moon, high above the horizon, did not provide enough light to keep his nyctophobia in check.
