As the sounds of the ill-timed charivari melded together in my ear, the rattle of pots and pans there fusing with the shrill notes of a bagpiper who seemed mistake this mid-December day for Hogmanay (still a week away), I began to think that the assembled celebrants considered the drowned-out wedding vows as an ancillary aspect of the occasion.
