The dénouement of his little story ( - now that's a complete misnomer, for it was a thoroughgoing saga, make no mistake) had been well worth the wait, for it transpired that the vagrant, keen to turn in now that the nights were growing longer and a trifle parky, had been riffling through the restaurant bins in search of something to satisfy the old breadbasket, grumbling away with hunger pangs, when he came upon the secret dossier almost buried beneath a mound of potato peelings.
