Quadrivial Quandary: Logophiles, Rejoice! Each day we give you four unusual words. Can you fit them all in one illustrative sentence?
Quandary Resolution 2849
hey rube, Ruritanian, wistful, fungible
During the disastrous hey rube of 1968, in which 63 Chicago citizens were killed by a vindictive band of homicidal circus performers (including three clowns, twenty-two gun-toting midgets, and a giant), someone began playing the song "Hey Jude" from atop a nearby building--the idea being that "hey rube" and "Hey Jude" were fungible--but this wistful melody, no doubt intended to soothe the warring masses, only inflamed their anger; and things might have gone ill had not the Ruritanian ambassador, a happy grin on his plump face, come floating out of the sky in a bright orange parachute, stark naked but for the tiny balloon fastened tactfully to his yarbles, and by the very fact of his astonishing appearance brought the deadly conflict to an end.
