Losing his seat at the general election he was bemused to find that, having served for many years in the lower chamber, he was elevated to the bicameral 'other place' where, as a former collier from a South Wales pit, he had the gumption to demand generous subsidies for emphysemic ex-miners (like himself) to replace the rot-box flivvers that, times being hard, many (like himself) were still driving.
